Creating Harmony
When I picture “Harmony”, I see a variety of definitions. I see: balance, organization, calmness, peace, cooperation, just for starters. These are the tools, and Harmony is their creation. When we put these to use in all areas of our life, harmony is the only possible result.
Imagine an orchestra, where each instrument plays their own portion or section of the symphony. Each one alone is sadly inadequate, and if played all at once they just make noise. Then add the conductor, with his direction each instrument plays their part on cue and in perfect timing and the result is a harmonious work of art.
Our lives are much the same as the symphony. The instruments would be our home, work, family, recreation, body, energy, emotions, and even our thoughts. If we, as the conductors of our own lives, direct each of these instruments with the tools: calmness, balance, peace, etc., then harmony – just happens.
One area Harmony can be nurtured is your work/school space. Whether you go to an office or your desk is at home, start by creating a harmonious area. Organize your tools and materials to flow smoothly. If you do a lot of writing, make sure you have plenty of good working pens handy. Keep items you use frequently within easy reach. Less used items can be stored off your work surface. A separate table or maybe a small stack of drawers placed next to your desk. Clear the area around you of clutter that will distract you from your task. When studying, play instrumental music in the background so you do not start singing along in your mind and interrupt your reading. As your work/study performance begins to improve with these small beginning steps, you will feel less stressed and able to accomplish more. Up goes your confidence as well as your sense of peace. It is that “circle” concept. One-step leads to another, and another, which comes back around to enhance the original desire.
When you step away from your work or studies; really step away. It will be there when you return. Lend your energy and thoughts fully to other interests. Your mind needs a break as well as your body. Allow them both time to rest and play, you will return with a clearer mind and renewed energy.
